Sean van den Steenhoven is a graphic designer based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His practice has an editorial approach and is always driven by dialogue and awareness of the given context, resulting in mixed-media outcomes with a strong typographic character. He is motivated to translate extensive research into concepts that stay visually true to their essence and sees design as a medium for storytelling, research, poetry, exploration, and creation. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of the Arts Utrecht; studied at the Politecnico di Milano in Italy; and worked as an intern with Marco Balesteros (Letra) in Lisbon, Portugal, and Córdova Canillas in Barcelona, Spain. In the fall of 2018, he worked with design collective New Studio in Brooklyn, New York. Between 2018 and 2025 Sean was responsible for the in-house design for BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht. BAK is an international platform for theoretically informed, politically driven art and experimental research.
